pim asks...

i need a list of every job in the engineering industry

What we suggest...

Hi pim, thanks for contacting q2a.

We're a little unsure of what you're asking us: whether you're asking about job vacancies in engineering, or whether you're asking about all the different sorts of engineering. So we'll give you information about both. With regard to job vacancies, we're sorry but it would be an impossible task for us, indeed for anyone! The number of job vacancies changes all the time as posts are filled and new ones are advertised. But if you know what type of engineering work you're looking for, here's where to look:

- Redbridge Connexions Service, Broadway Chambers, 1 Cranbrook Road, Ilford. IG14DU. Telephone: 0208 514 9567. Their opening hours
- Redbridge Jobcentre Plus, 564-570 High Road, Seven Kings, Ilford. IG3 8EJ. Telephone: 0208 271 4813. Their opening hours will probably be 9am-5pm-ish
- Look in the local newspapers e.g. the Ilford Recorder. You'll be able to read these for free in your local library: Ilford Central Library, Clements Road, Ilford. IG1 1EA http://www.redbridge.gov.uk. Telephone: 020 8708 2414. Open: Monday-Friday 9.30-8.00pm, Saturday 9.30am-4.00pm
- Look in the national Newspapers e.g. The Times, The Guardian, The Daily Mail. You local library (details above) may have copies of these
- Use the business directories in your local library's reference section (details above), identify engineering companies and either telephone, call in, or send them your CV with a letter enquiring if there are any vacancies
- Look at job vacancy websites on the Internet e.g. http://www.monster.co.uk, http://www.total jobs.com, http://www.jobsearch.co.uk/. You can post your CV on some of these sites. If you haven't got access to the Internet, you can use computers free of charge in the library, details above.
You might also want to consider the Armed Forces:

- Army: Army Careers Information Office, 180A Cranbrook Road, llford. IG1 4LR. Telephone: 020 8518 4565. Website:http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk
- Royal Navy: telephone (local call rate) 0845 607 5555. Website: http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/careers
- Royal Air Force: nearest office: Air Forces Careers Office, (RAF), St. George's Court, 2-12 Bloomsbury Way. London. WC1A 2SH. Telephone: (local call rate) 0845 605 5555. Website: http://www.rafcareers.com

Here's a list of all the different types of engineering work. We've got this information from Jobfile 2007/8; if you need more details than we can give here your local Connexions Centre (details above) will probably have a copy. You can also find the information on their website: http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/. If you type 'engineering' into the search box it will give you a list of all the different types of engineering work.
