What we suggest...
Hi nexus, thanks for your email.
Although in some circumstances a certain amount if anger can be useful as a motivational tool, we do appreciate that if it gets out of hand it can be very exhausting, and can begin to affect our mental and physical health. From what you tell us it sounds as though you've hit rock-bottom, but you've now made a positive decision, and a step towards changing things for the better.
Here are your local services:
Doncaster Mind provide an anger management service, you can get more information by contacting them directly at:
- Doncaster Mind, 27/29 Netherhall Road, Doncaster. DN1 2PG. Telephone: 01302 812190. Email: office@doncastermind.org.uk
If you would prefer to pay privately for counselling here are two local services:
- South Yorks Anger Management, 01302 865899, mobile 07894 914610. Website: http://www.southyorksangermanagement.co.uk/. Telephone for a free initial appointment, thereafter £25 in Doncaster, an additional £15 for travel outside Doncaster
- Lynn Wilshaw, Tickhill Counselling, telephone, 01302 742820. Email: email@lynndek.freeserve.co.uk . Her rates are £40 per session.
If you have access to the Internet and you'd like more information here are some useful websites:

You may already be aware that the BBC is running a 2 part series on Anger presented by Griff Rhys Jones. Part 2 is showing on 30th September, 9pm on BBC2 and there is an associated website which we found helpful for our reply:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/headroom/wellbeing/guides/depressanx/anger/anger.shtml
From our research for this reply it seems that the best advice is to work out what triggers the anger and then work on trying to eliminate it. Common triggers are:
- being treated unfairly compared to someone else
- being verbally or physically assaulted
- having feelings disregarded by people in authority
- being ignored by friends and family
- being the victim of dishonesty or broken promises
We hope what we've said in our reply helps you to identify what is triggering your feelings of anger; if it's not one already mentioned perhaps it will help you to think about your own particular circumstances. We hope you're able to get support from the organisations we've mentioned.
Please email us again if you need to, about this or anything else.
Best wishes from q2a.
