Q2A
Got a quick question ......
how can i stop self harming?
This is our reply.......
You have made a very brave and positive move in asking how you can stop self harming.
Self harm is probably more common than you think, and is often used as a way for people
to cope with deep emotional pain and distress. If you feel comfortable talking to your GP,
they would be an excellent first point of contact for help and support. However if this is
difficult, you could contact an agency called the National Self Harm Network. They provide
Support Helpline for people experiencing self harm on 0800 622 6000 (7pm-11pm
Thursday-Saturday, 6.10pm-10.30pm Sunday). They also have a website at
http://www.nshn.co.uk/ and can be contacted by email at support@nshn.co.uk
We provide an autotext service which you might find helpful when you are feeling like you
want to self harm. If you text the letters FLSH (which stand for "feel like self harm" to
07766 363390 we automatically send out a text back to with suggestions on distraction
techniques or ways of coping. Finally for a list of useful coping techniques and ways of
dealing with the urge to self harm, there is an excellent list available via
