hi how do you get a bank account and what do you need

In order to open a bank account you need to complete an application form from the bank and provide certain personal information. You will usually be asked to prove who you are, where you live, prove student status if relevant, and in some cases pay some money into your account which can be as little as £1. Identification that you could take to the bank with you could include:

- Birth certificate
- Any letter you have received with your name and address on it
- Passport
- Any student ID card you may have
- National Insurance Card
- Driver's licence
- NHS medical card

Depending on how old you are will determine how many documents you have to show, try to take at least 3 things showing a mixture of where you live and who you are. Hopefully the more you provide the easier the process will be. It might be worth picking a form up from the bank you want to join first or ringing them so you can see if you have the right identification you need and each bank might be slightly different in what identification they may want to see.
