Xbox_Confusion   Asks...

Hi Q2A,

i have been recently expirencing 'perfect circle scratches' on my xbox 360 game discs, i have checked all over the internet and every website i have clicked on explains that the xbox has to be knocked over or re-positioned while the disc is inside for this to happen, but the thing is... i never touched it! im really worried that my console is gonna give up on me or get the RROD (red ring of death) could u please please please find out why this is happening without the console been moved or knocked over.

thank you

What we suggest...

Hi Xbox_Confusion, thanks for contacting q2a.

We have undertaken some research on the internet, which confirms that moving or knocking the Xbox causes "perfect circle scratches" but also alleges that the Xbox may be prone to scratching the discs unaided.

First of all here are some websites stating it is caused by moving or knocking the Xbox;

Comments on the following websites question this, and allege the machine is prone to scratching discs;

#· www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnCwo2YuG6c one comment states "the xbox 360 Scratches? games without hiting it"
#· www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=168538 has an article regarding two people who are suing Microsoft "alleging the Xbox 360 is prone to scratching discs"
Finally comments on the website
# http:::://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26148433> allege that discs can be scratched by the machine if it is stood vertically and also if the machine is close to breaking down.

Obviously we are not qualified one way or the other to the state what may have caused these scratches; however there is considerable speculation on the websites about possible causes. Some websites suggest ways you may get the discs repaired. For example a number of people have suggested that the DVD rental store Blockbusters have a cleaning machine that can help. Alternatively if your game discs are manufactured by Microsoft they may repair them if you send them back to the company. If you choose to get in touch with Microsoft about this matter, they can be contacted at;

We hope our reply is of some help and that you can get this annoying problem solved soon.

Best wishes q2a.
