Q2A

Got a quick question asking......

I am a plasterer and have just been made redundant,I worked for the company for 18 mths,
but i have been plastering for the last 24 years I have no nvq or c/g qualifications what
hourly rate can i expect to get.

This is our reply.......

We're sorry to hear you've been made redundant.

The rate of pay varies depending on the employer and which part of the country they're in.
The absolute minimum would be the National Minimum Wage which is £5.80 an hour. But
we would expect that with references and your 24 years of experience you may be able to
negotiate a higher rate than this.

For your information the rates of pay set by the Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial
Council (BATJIC) are:

· For someone with an NVQ Level 2: £18,150 a year, which based on a 39 hour
week is nearly £10 per hour gross
· For someone with an NVQ Level 3: £21,111 a year which would be nearly £10.50
per hour gross
· Higher-earning plasterers could earn more than £35,000 a year

There will be a 2% increase in these rates from September. We found the Federation of
Master Builder's website useful:www.fmb.org.uk

We hope this information is helpful and you're soon able to get back into work.
