Q2A

Got a quick question asking......

Hi, i live in southampton and am going to be going to greenwich uni in september to study
law. I have my own Housing association flat here (first wessex) formerly atlantic housing.
However... This is too far for me to commute so i need to find an exchane to london.

Will my council be able to offer me an exchange to a different place eg london or will they
only offer exchanges in the same county?
If i cannot do it throught the council, do you knw of any free, but very good mutual home
exchange websites for council and housing association properties?

This is our reply.......

Southampton City Council works with qualifying council tenants or housing association
tenants and would swap your property with others on their register within their borough.
Your council's area office will be able to provide further advice and guidance on any wider
services they provide. You can contact directly them on 023 8083 3000.

You can also contact the Greenwich Council Housing directly on 020 8921 2941 and speak
to them about your situation. You could also contact your prospective university to see
if they can help you find housing in the area.

If the council does not operate a mutual exchange scheme across other councils there are
other ways you can find someone to exchange a home with.

There are web exchange sites and most are free or charge a minimal fee. They also offer a
database and forum facilities. You may have to pay for further services if you need them
but all provide home exchange services. We are unable to recommend anyone in
particular but the above mentioned places maybe able to provide you with more
appropriate information.

You may also be able to find an exchange partner by advertising, either via postcard
adverts in local shops, on the internet forums or through specialised sections in
newspapers.

The following websites maybe of useful help to you and maybe worth looking into:

www.councilhouseexchange.co.uk
www.councilexchangesite.co.uk

We hope you are able to exchange your flat in time for your course.
