This is our reply.......

Hi vagina issues, thanks for contacting q2a.

There are a number of possible reasons why you're having this kind of problem in your
vaginal area.

One of them is thrush, which you've already mentioned. The problem with thrush is that it
can recur inspite of treatment from your doctor so perhaps don't be too hard on him! It
could be that you do need to have another course of treatment, or be treated with a course
of stronger antifungal drugs. Although it's tempting, don't use creams to soothe it
because they may contain irritants.

You say that you haven't changed your washing powder, but there are other possible
causes apart from this. Try to avoid the following:

# Using perfumed soaps, vaginal deodorants, scented sanitary products e.g.
tampons, towels
# Wearing undergarments made from synthetic materials e.g. knickers, tights
# Wearing tight outer clothing e.g. jeans or trousers
# Stressful situations
# Medicines e.g. antibiotics

If you're sexually active the following can cause also be a cause of thrush:

# spermicidal creams
# lubricants
# latex condoms
# the contraceptive pill
# sexual intercourse with an infected partner

There are also some sexually transmitted infections which can cause similar symptoms
e.g. herpes, trichomonas vaginalis.

Here's what we suggest:

# try the self-help measures listed in our first set of bullet points for a few weeks
and see if it clears up
· if you're sexually active, avoid having sex until your symptoms have cleared up,
and encourage your partner to go for a sexual health check to avoid re-infection, if
applicable
# at the same time as the above, you could try an over-the-counter remedy e.g.
Canesten which comes in the form of a vaginal pessary, a cream, and an oral capsule
which will treat internal and external symptoms all at the same time

If this is not successful you should go back to your doctor and ask him about:

# whether you need another course of the same treatment
# whether you need a course of treatment with stronger drugs
# whether you should change your contraceptive pill, if applicable
# whether you and your partner going for a full sexual health check to rule out
sexually transmitted infections, if applicable

We hope you find the information in our reply helps you to find out what's causing your
symptoms. Please email us again if you think we can help, about this or anything else.

Best wishes from q2a.
