Q2A

Got a quick question asking......

does weed give you depression?

This is our reply.......

There does seem to be a connection between weed (cannabis) and depression, however whether weed directly causes depression is debatable. This is because it is common for people who rely on weed and other recreational drugs to become addicted to them and then when they try and stop taking them can become low in mood and depression can occur. A person may also start to take drugs such as weed to try and forget or cope with other stresses in their life at that time and this stress may trigger depressive episodes but whether this is a direct result of smoking weed or due to the other stresses is hard to determine. This is because people who are already depressed may take weed in the hope of trying to feel better. Therefore the effect of taking weed can lead to depressive episodes but also having depression can lead to relying on weed and other drugs to help.
