what percentage of men are gay in the UK?

The Stonewall website states that the government is using the figure of 5-7%
of the population which Stonewall feels is a reasonable estimate. However,
there is no hard data on the number of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals in
the UK as no national census has ever asked people to define their sexuality.
Although some people are open about their sexuality there are still many who
are unable to tell because they are uncomfortable with their sexuality, or are
scared they will be punished or ridiculed or bullied. For more information try
