Q2A
Got a message telling us......
As a teenager is it normal to feel kinda messed up?
This is our reply.......
Yes! Many teenagers find this time of life difficult because they have to cope with new
emotions, the physical changes to their bodies, and wanting more independence from
parents/carers as they become adults. On top of this they have to cope with being at
school or college, and having to make choices about exam subjects and a future career.
So it's natural to have times when it feels as though everything's too much.
In young men puberty takes place between at approximately 9 -18 years old, and can last
from 4-6 years. In young women it takes place between at approximately 9 – 16 years old
and can last from 3-6 years. We hope it's reassuring to know that it doesn't go on for
ever.
Many young people get through this tough time by talking things over with friends, or
getting information from teen magazines and websites, or if they're really worried about
something, from the health professionals at their GP's surgery or young people's clinics.
