Q2A

Got a question from Josie ......

Where can I get experience in animal care?

This is our reply.......

Hi josie, thanks for your email about working with animals.

First of all we ought to point out that some organisations won't take on under 16 year olds
for legal and insurance purposes so you'll need to check with the organisation you'd like to
work with what their policy is. Don't let this put you off because we're confident you'll find
somewhere if you persist.

Here are some of the types of organisation you could contact: (Please note, these are
only suggestions, they are not recommendations or endorsements).
# Lords House Farm Wilpshire Road, Rishton, Nr Blackburn, BB1 4AH
01254877400
# Boarding kennels: Aspen Valley Boarding Kennels and Cattery, Lower Aspden
Lane, Oswaldtwistle. Telephone: 01254 233702. Benwood Boarding, Bentley Wood Fold,
Accrington Road, Hapton. Telephone: 01282 425868

# Riding schools or stables: Accrington Riding Centre, Rothwell Mill Farm, Miller
Fold Avenue, Accrington. Telephone: 01254 393563

# Livestock farms: there are lots of these, do you know anyone who lives on a farm?

# Pet shops: Pet Warehouse, Oak Street, Oswaldtwistle. Telephone: 01254 390311

# Animal rescue centres: Hyndburn Stray Dogs in Need, 3 Norden View, Rishton.
Telephone 01254 875990. RSPCA, Holker House Farm, Altham. Telephone 01254 231118

# Veterinary practices: Mearley Veterinary Group, 2 Kenyon Street, Accrington.
Telephone 01254 231703

As well as these suggestions, do you have any pets at home that you care for, or perhaps
there are pets at school and you help look after them? All of this is valuable experience
that might help you in the future.

We hope you're successful in finding a suitable place to gain experience. Please email us
again if you think we can help.

Best wishes from q2a.
