Hi Will B, thanks for your email.

You probably won't need to do an Access course as you're in Education now; Access
courses are really aimed at people who have been out of education for a number of years.
We've listed the 3 nearest universities which offer Biology degrees and their entry
requirements below. Their degrees are all 3 years' full time study.

# University of Bolton's entry requirements for their Biology degree are GCSE
passes in 5 subjects at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English, mathematics
and science. GCE A Level, minimum 2 but prefer 3, to include Biology or a related
subject. Other acceptable Level 3 qualifications (A Level equivalent) are: BTEC National
Certificate in Biology or related subject, 12 units, Distinction, Distinction. BTEC National
Diploma, 18 units, in Biology or related subject, pass standard Merit, Merit, Merit.

# Manchester Metropolitan University's entry requirements for their Biology degree
are GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade C and two sciences. GCE A Levels:
minimum 2 but prefer 3: Biology at grade C or Human Biology at grade C and one from
Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and Mathematics would be acceptable. GCE A Level
Double Award in Applied Science. Other acceptable Level 3 qualifications (A Level
equivalent) are: BTEC National Certificate, 12 units in Science or Health Science. BTEC
National Diploma, 18 units in Science or Health Science, no pass standards specified.

# University of Salford's entry requirements for their Biology degree are GCSE
Maths, English and Double Science at Grade C. Other acceptable Level 3 qualifications
(A Level equivalent) are: A Level in Biological Science plus General Studies. Other

A university may query your change of direction from Youth Work so you'll need to be able
to demonstrate an interest in Biology, for example when and how did your interest in
Biology begin, and have you got a particular career you're interested in.

We'll talk about paying for your degree now. Whether you'll be eligible for grants will
depend on your household income in the year when you start university. The main ways
to support yourself financially at university are:

# Student Loan for Fees to pay the course fees
# Student Loan for Maintenance to pay for your living costs

The above loans are repayable when you are in work and earning above a certain amount,
currently £15,000 and may rise to £21,000.

# Maintenance Grant. You will be eligible for all or part of this if your household
income is low enough. If you qualify for this your Student Loan for Maintenance will be
reduced as you they won't pay you both
# Bursaries from your university

You don't have to repay the Maintenance Grant or a university bursary.

We can't tell you exactly how much the loans and grants will be because they haven't
been decided yet for the next academic year. Also, the value of bursaries will be different
at each university. It is proposed that tuition fees may rise to as much as £9,000 per
year, and then there will be the amount of the Student Loan for Maintenance as well. You
can keep checking for this information on the direct.gov website below, and with the
university you apply to study at.
