Q2A
Got an enquiry ........
Can you tell me where there are any short art courses during the day (not a night course)
near to where I live in Whittle-le-woods. Ide like to pass on my skills to young people.
Anything that is arts and crafts.
Can you tell me venue, prices, start date.
I am pregnant so ideally I would like to do something that starts in September / November.
This is our reply.......
Hi
We understand you are looking for some short art courses during the day that are close to
where you live in Whittle-le-Woods.
One place that is quite near to you that runs a lot of arts and crafts courses is Alston Hall.
Just outside of Longridge it is 12 miles from Whittle-le-Woods. They offer a very wide
variety of courses which might fit the kind of skills you are looking to pass on. They
include card making, bead and wire jewellery and painting on silk amongst others. They
also offer courses in lacemaking, embroidery and textile art. For more information they
have a website which can be accessed at www.alstonhall.com. They can also be
contacted by phone on 01772 784661and by email at
alstonhall.general2@lancashire.gov.uk
Their address is:

Another good place to try would be Lancashire College. They are based in Chorley and
offer a wide range of Arts and Crafts courses including acrylic painting, designer cushions,
cards and crafts and jewellery making. They can be contacted on 0845 6001331 or 01257

Finally, Lancashire Floodlight is a website that serves as a local guide to courses in
Lancashire. You can search by subject and geographical area and it will provide a list of
relevant courses. Their web address is: www.lancashire.floodlight.co.uk.
As you are looking for courses in the next academic year you will really need to make
enquiries afresh later in the year when details of courses on offer and prices will be
available.
It might also be a good idea to investigate what is on offer at local crafting shops, for
instance Abakhan (www.abakhan.co.uk) which has a store at Unit 3b, Corporation Street,
Preston, PR1 2UQ run workshops on a regular basis and more and more wool and craft
! shops are doing this.
Hope this is useful for you - good luck and all the best from q2a.
