at what age can i get paid employment?

Hi johneth, thanks for contacting q2a.
You can get paid employment from the age of 13. The sort of work you are allowed to do
is:
- in agriculture or in horse riding stables
- delivering newspapers
- in a shop or supermarket stacking shelves
- in a hairdressing salon, office, cafe or restaurant
- in hotels as e.g. a chamber person
- car washing or gardening for your neighbours
- in TV, theatre or similar work as long as you have a performance licence from your local
council
There are limits on the number of hours you can work:
- none during school hours
- no more than 2 hours on a school day
- no more than 1 hour in the morning before school starts
- no work before 7am or after 7pm
- no more than 12 hours in any week you are in school
- at 15 years old no more than 8 hours on a Saturday or any other day which is not a
school day
- at 15 years old no more than 35 hours in any week during the school holidays
- you must have 2 consecutive weeks' holiday from work during the school holidays
- you must have a 1 hour break after 4 hours work
